For most of my time in music school, I was preparing for a career as a flute professor. It was PERFECT...I got to be nerdy, teach, play, and build a community around advancing the arts.
After applying to more than 100 flute professor positions and being one of the final 3 candidates seven times and never getting the job, I decided to change my perspective.
I realized that teaching private lessons could look JUST LIKE teaching in higher education if I wanted it to without all that red tape and those committee meetings.
So, I set out on a mission to create a private studio model that is built on high achievement, community, and a lot of love.
And it worked!
Many musicians find it challenging to know how to get started with starting a private studio. It's true that it can be the most treacherous part. You're literally starting a small business, and chances are, you weren't taught how to do that in music school.
Now, I teach musicians how to not only start a private studio but how to make it thrive.
I hope this guide will help you navigate the challenges of starting a studio so you can create your dream job just like I did!
